# Pause a real-time session

> Pause recording and commit the current segment.

  Total captured samples, after your capture queue has been flushed. Prefer a decimal string.

Stop capture and send any buffered frames before pausing. The response is the
[session view](/api-reference/stt/getSession). A segment can still receive its final result
while the session is paused. Continue with [resume](/api-reference/stt/resumeSession),
or [finish](/api-reference/stt/finishSession) when recording is over.

For a WebSocket client, the equivalent event is `session.pause`.
